Well, this is interesting. The ABC reports on a claim of "homosexual vilification" against Mark Latham based on a tweet, but they won't tell us what he said and the tweet containing the alleged vilification has been deleted.
How are we to form an opinion about this matter if we have no idea what he said? It's just bad journalism. The refusal to share his tweet would appear to be due to a perception that anyone who repeats the words, even in the clear context of a news report, is somehow committing another offence.
Mr Greenwich said unless Mr Latham "apologises and makes amends" he would also commence defamation proceedings against him.
The demand to "make amends" suggests that Greenwich wants a payment of money from Latham to settle this, but the report also states that a complaint has been made to the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW, which means that he still may be charged under anti-discrimination law and forced by the tribunal to make a public apology and possibly pay more money to other offended parties.
I'm surprised that Latham would have said anything likely to get him in trouble with the ADB. He has been calling out the ADB, in Parliament, for a long history of vexatious complaints against a disabled Sydney man, all of which were upheld by their tribunal.
I will need to see what he tweeted in order to know where I stand on this. If it was truly disgusting, as Pauline Hanson said, then I guess he deserves a reprimand.
ADDENDUM AFTER READING THE ACTUAL TWEET
The tweet is posted in comments below, published by the Daily Mail.
After reflecting on this, my opinion is that the legal issue here hangs on the meaning and implications of the word "disgusting". Labelling a person as "disgusting" is potentially defamatory in itself, and it was Greenwich who used that slur against Latham initally.
Screen grab of tweet.
Daily Mail UK had the guts to publish a redacted version of the alleged "homphobic tweet".
It was exactly what I expected. He simply described anatomical and physiologcal facts about anal sex.
If I said that that heterosexual men regularly squirt semen into a womans vagina and their penis gets covered in vaginal mucosa, would that be vilification, or simply a statement of fact?

'Mark Latham is a disgusting human being and people who are considering voting for One Nation need to realise they are voting for an extremely hateful and dangerous individual who risks causing a great deal of damage to our state,' Mr Greenwich said at a press conference.
The statement was then posted on Twitter, with Latham responding at 10.13am on Thursday: 'Disgusting? How does that compare with sticking your d*** up a bloke's a*** and covering it with s***?'

5EP - Fifth Estate PressMark Latham is playing a dangerous game. He will now learn first-hand how the onerous homosexual vilification case-law (section 49ZT of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act) - that he tried to expose in the NSW Legislative Council - will now come back to bite him in the bum, and ruin his political career.

5EP - Fifth Estate PressPauline Hanson, the leader of the One Nation party, was pressured into distancing herself from her party's man in the New South Wales Legislative Council, Mark Latham. She put out a video calling on him to apologise for his "homophobic" tweet. She thought this would get her off the hook. She was mistaken. Why? See this article below published in today's Crikey newsletter. Once you are targeted as a right-wing nut-job by the Greens and Labor, nothing will get you off the hook. Mark Latham is correct, He has said "never apologize, never explain" because that is what they want you to do. It's called coercive control (of the narrative).
Footnote. Latham did make a kind of doubling-down non-apologetic apology when he tweeted on May 2, 2023:-
I’m very sorry for saying I hate the idea of having anal sex with another man.
It is an extraordinary situation in Australia wherein a heterosexual man cannot express his normal and natural emotions that make him feel disgusted at the thought of anal sex. This is what it means to be a truly heterosexual man. If you're a man and are into anal sex, you're more likely than not in the 'B' category of the LGBTQIA+ assortment of psychosexual disorders.

GREENER PASTURES
Greens Deputy Leader Mehreen Faruqi is suing One Nation’s Pauline Hanson for tweeting that Faruqi should “pack your bags and piss off back to Pakistan”, the ABC reports, which set off a “frenzy of hate and abuse” directed at the Greens senator. Faruqi alleges Hanson violated section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act with the “insulting and humiliating” tweet, which came after Faruqi tweeted she could not mourn the late Queen Elizabeth, “the leader of a racist empire built on stolen lives, land and wealth of colonised people”. See both tweets here in this Daily Mail story. Here’s what Faruqi wants: for Hanson to undertake anti-racism training, pay $150,000 to a not-for-profit, delete the tweet and pin a post to her profile for three months that says she has “committed unlawful offensive behaviour”.
It's unhygienic and unhealthy. The rectum is full of bacteria. This is why we naturally feel disgust when we see or smell feces. Western media-culture has attempted to brainwash people into shutting down their instintive and healthy response to this unnatural and unhealthy activity.
Yeah, I asked a gay guy once if the smell of a fart was like an aphrodisiac to him. It isn't.

5EP - Fifth Estate PressLatham was referred to as disgusting. And he retaliated by comparing what he considers disgusting to what his instigator considers disgusting.
Good on Mark Latham.
Yes, I agree. I doubt he will be convicted of anything, but the hysterical way the media and other pollies reacted is the real story here. It is a mass formation psychosis.
And we should remember why he was called "disgusting" - it was for addressing a group of Christians who object to having their children indoctrinated with LGBTQ ideology at school. Objecting to compulsory propaganda and brainwashing of children is "disgusting", apparently.

Mark Latham cannot win in the New South Wales Civil & Administrative Tribunal if the Anti Discrimination Board of NSW refers the complaint from Alex Greenwich for external judgement.
He cannot win because all the case law is now in place to substantiate any and every "homosexual vilification" complaint based on a social media comment that is deemed to be "homophobic".
You will undersand after watching this testimony from the brain-damaged pentecostal-Christian ex-taxi driver. He has been used as "low hanging fruit" to make the case law. Now they can go after the higher-hanging fruit like Mark Latham.

RumbleI'm not so sure. It was Greenwich who used the word "disgusting" to "defame" Latham initially. Latham then echoed that word, and appended some graphic details about anal sex. It was a retort, in response to a defamatory statement. I think he'll win this if it ever goes trial.
The media as usual is the real culprit here. From they way they covered it you would imagine that Latham accused the guy of raping children. They blew it out of all proportion, as usual.
I agree with you that the media (Sydney Morning Herald) have gone into an apoplexy in reaction to Mark Latham’s tweet.
The Guardian gives us a cryptic clue as to what Latham tweeted. My guess is that Latham, after being called "a disgusting human being" by Alex Greenwich, reflected on undeniable facts about anal sex, which is not an exclusively gay practice anyway.
----
Latham’s original comments were made on Twitter shortly after the state election in response to an article in which Sydney independent MP Greenwich called him “a disgusting human being”. The article was about LGBTQ+ protesters being targeted outside an event Latham spoke at.
In response, Latham said “disgusting?” and then went on to make gratuitous comments about a sexual act. The Guardian chose not to publish the full comment, which was condemned across the political spectrum.
The tweet was deleted within three hours but Latham on Thursday said he stuck by his views about homosexual sex.
He claimed that his views reflected those of straight men.
