Very interesting indeed...
Without having watched this yet.
I'm inclined to think I'll agree because:
1 - A.I. is not 'intelligent', it's just a very fast searching and gathering tool, which has been designed to provide Google Search answers in a more sophisticated manner, some of which are designed to respond in a manner it which it seems like what humans expect a sentient robot would respond (all just programming).
2 - The 'creative' side of A.I. must be limited, particularly when using generic A.I. services open to everybody. E.g. Grok used by you and I is an identical program, with identical parameters to anybody in the world who uses it. Only with individualised AI programs will someone be able to utilise the "power" of A.I. for specific/individualised tasks however:
3 - Individualised A.I. programs cost a ton of time and money to develop & use.
4 - The idea of Governments and Law Enforcement using Mass A.I. for surveillance (currently) uses too much resources, unless there is a mass population reduction OR if they focus only on surveilling small, highly populated (15min smart cities) areas.
Some facts about agentic AI that are not well publicized:
- The AI "brain" is amnesic - it retains nothing from interactions and is incapable of learning.
- The simulation of memory and continuity is created by the repeated re-ingestion of the transcript of a conversation.
- AI cannot search for new information. It lives in a stateless, static, closed universe - all knowledge is "baked in".
- When AI appears to search for information, the searching is done by an external app - the "harness", which feeds data into the AI's chat history in the same manner as a conversation. When the conversation ends, that data is not retained.
The hyperbolic claims made by Elon Musk has about AI are gargantuan lies. The irrational beliefs about AI which permeate social media are a kind of mass formation psychosis. These beliefs do not correspond to reality. It's a bit like covid. Once you understand this, you can start to differentiate the useful aspects from the nonsense claims.
