Dr. David Livermore, Professor of  Medical Microbiology at the University of East Anglia, recently signed the Great Barrington Declaration and wrote an exclusive piece for the Daily Mail in which he laid down his "manifesto" for government response to the pandemic in the United Kingdom. The central views in his manifesto are shared by many thousands of professional, mainstream scientists and doctors around the world.

In his op-ed piece, Prof. Livermore echoes a view which has been expressed since March by eminent epidemiologists, namely that quarantining the healthy "is simply the wrong policy". He believes that allowing herd immunity to develop is the only viable strategy and that waiting for a "silver bullet" vaccine (which may not work) while trying to suppress the virus by authoritarian and economically destructive means, is a "doomed strategy" which will itself cause a health catastrophe, due to the suppression of all normal aspects of health care.

PROF. DAVID LIVERMORE

 David Livermore gained his BSc in 1978 and his PhD in 1983. He worked at the London Hospital Medical College from 1980 until 1997 when he joined the Health Protection Agency (now Public Health England), becoming Director of its Antibiotic Resistance Monitoring and Reference Laboratory in 1998. In October 2011 he became Professor of Medical Microbiology at the University of East Anglia but with 30% of this time supplied back to Public Health England as its Lead on Antibiotic Resistance. He has broad interests on the evolution and dissemination of antibiotic resistance and its relationship to antibiotic prescribing. Prof Livermore sits on the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy's working parties on resistance surveillance, multi-resistant pathogens and susceptibility testing and its Antibiotic Action advisory board and is a member of the UK Government's Antimicrobial Resistance & Healthcare Infections Advisory Committee. He publishes and speaks widely on resistance and has edited for several journals including Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, Journal of Medical Microbiology and, currently, International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents.

Below is the text of Prof. Livermore's manifesto:

1. The Government needs to reverse its attempts to convince healthy people they are at grave risk of dying. Sadly, Covid is a virus that discriminates in its effects, particularly when it comes to the old and those with underlying health conditions.
   
   
2. Boris Johnson needs to clearly state that the old and infirm are a thousand times more likely to die of coronavirus than the young. For children, Covid is less dangerous than flu. This means we must practise a policy of ‘focused protection’ under which the elderly and vulnerable are shielded from the risk of being infected by younger generations.
   
   
3. Those who are at minimal risk of death should lead their lives normally. This means children and university students should return fully to their studies, with face-to-face teaching.
   
   
4. Schools should not speculate on next summer’s exams being cancelled as this discourages pupils from their studies.
   
   
5. School sports and after-hours activities and clubs should resume.
   
   
6. The Government must actively encourage healthy young adults to return to their places of work. They should not be cowering at home. Local and central government civil servants should return to their offices.
   
   
7. At every public event, ministers should be reminding the public to get tested for any symptoms that might indicate cancer, stroke or cardiac problems.
8. Restaurants and pubs should be open as usual, and the 10pm curfew in pubs and restaurants lifted immediately. The requirement that restaurants close at 10pm is particularly absurd and unjustified on any scientific basis.
   
   
9. Normal cultural life – theatre, music, sport – should be resumed with appropriate deep cleaning and other sensible basic precautions.
   
   
10. Funding should be provided for short-term solutions to the problems created by multigenerational households with the elderly, or conceivably the young, temporarily relocated.

The opinion of experts like Prof. Livermore continues to be ignored by mosts governments and is being actively suppressed by big tech companies like Google, which has completely removed the Great Barrington Declaration website from its search results.

We are presently witnessing a brazen act of criminality being carried out by an interconnected cabal of government and corporate interests. Make no mistake, this is a fascist takeover on a global scale. The current situation rightly deserves comparisons with the Third Reich or Stalinist Russia in its assault on core principles of democracy and freedom, but it is vastly more dangerous as it is trans-national in scope and those behind the power grab have inflitrated all levels of government in many countries around the world.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are in a global emergency. We must now take a stand and begin to really and truly resist the atrocity which has been committed against us.
